OF FREEDOM FIGHTERS AND TERRORISTS

MURDER

He signalled his gang to get ready. Their weapons were loaded. All they had to do now was wait for the bastard to come out of his den.

Lala's death had to be avenged.

They were determined to kill. There was going to be blood shed tonight.

Blood for blood...the perfect barter.

A few minutes later, a uniformed white man on a motorbike emerged from the police station.

They all shot at him. A subordinate came to the bastard's aid. He was shot dead too.

Lala's death had been avenged.

Bhagat Singh was elated.

"Inquilaab Zindabad!!" they shouted in unison.

MURDER 2

He signalled his gang to get ready. Their weapons were loaded. All they had to do now was wait for the bastard to come out of his den.

The Maulana's death had to be avenged.

They were determined to kill. There was going to be blood shed tonight.

Blood for blood...the perfect barter.

A few minutes later, a uniformed brown man on a motorbike emerged from the police station.

They all shot at him. A subordinate came to the bastard's aid. He was shot dead too.

The Maulana's death had been avenged.

Zaakir was elated.

"Inquilaab Zindabad!!" they shouted in unison.

Strikingly similar stories. Only the names differ.

Yet, one gets to be a 'freedom fighter' while the other has to settle for 'terrorist'.

ONE MAN'S TERRORIST IS ALWAYS ANOTHER MAN'S FREEDOM FIGHTER...

  1. So true!!
Is it that we, humans, twist things around to suit us or is it that revenge has evolved over the ages into something that has lost it's purpose and is redundant violence?

  4. @PeeVee - It's double-standards for sure..In my opinion both are terrorists..Apparently Bhagat Singh, Sukhdeo, Rajguru and Chandrashekhar Azad even got the wrong guy..they were looking for someone named Scott but in a case of mistaken identity ended up killing Saunders instead..and yeah, they also killed an Indian constable who came to Saunders' aid

  5. @Aditi - It's not about secularism..it's actually about how we label people according to our convenience, disregarding what they actually stand for.

In my opinion, Murder 1 and Murder 2 were both acts of terrorism.

  13. Hey,nice take on it.While I am not justifying Bhagat Singh's murder, one man's freedom fighter is not always other man's terrorist. Lots of terrorism happens for power ,money and ideas that cant be justified. A country's freedom is not like that. Methods may or may not be same, but their ends are different.

    1. Terrorists are backed by their own justification of what they feel is right. They justify violent means. Most nation's struggles for freedom have been violent in parts. It's only after the country has gained freedom that even terrorists have been called freedom fighters. Take the French revolution and the overthrowing of the Czar as other examples

      Thanks for the comment :)
